eighth biennial  2009 conference  for  held on November 17 and 18 in
Atlanta, GA.

International Society of Family History Writers & Editors (ISFHWE)

                               Linda Coffin, owner of History Crafters,
                               received an Excellence in Writing award from
                               the International Society of Family History
                               Writers and Editors (ISFHWE), for her original
                               research story entitled, “Great-Uncle Andrew:
                               The Murderer in the Family Closet.”

                               Linda attended the National Genealogical
                               Society’s annual conference in Raleigh,
                               N.C., on May 13, 2009. At the ISFHWE
                               banquet she was awarded second place
                               in Category III: Original Research Story.

"Stories Behind Life Stories: Musings of a Memoirist," by Mary O'Brien
Tyrrell, M.P.H. The 14-page article provides an overview of the effects
observed during 15 years of assisting more than 250 elders (from all over
the country and even into Canada) with writing and publishing their life
stories in hardcover books that are distributed at a family book-signing
party. Subtopics within the paper include: resolution, family dynamics,
gender differences, joint memoirs, book distribution, risks, and
conclusion.

St. Catherine University
"Mary O'Brien Tyrrell is working with the School of Health at St.
Catherine's University in St. Paul, MN developing a graduate certificate
program to prepare memoirists for elders. The requirements and courses
will be developed during the 2008-2009 academic year. One of the goals is
to eventually offer many of the courses on-line. For additional information
